Dow hits 30,000 points for first time as US stocks boom

New York (AFP) – The Dow surged past 30,000 points for the first time Tuesday as receding US political uncertainty and hopes for coronavirus vaccines offset worries over spiking Covid-19 cases.Near 1710 GMT, the blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 1.6 percent to 30,077.77. The broad-based S&P 500 also gained 1.5 percent to 3,631.28 while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 1.0 percent to 11,994.92.Investors now feel more reassured that the US can avoid a constitutional crisis over the transition of power in the United States.Outgoing President Donald Trump still has not con…
